On the 10th day of Christmas, my email sent to me…

This questionairre:

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags? I prefer wrapping paper for sure, but this year has been a tough wrapping year for me (I actually have a wrapping table with a McGuyver-ish wrapping paper roll holder like those fancy department stores, but I moved it to the music room and I never go down there to wrap presents…just do it cross-legged on the floor in front of The Biggest Loser or some other such quality entertainment.  Anywhoooo) Claudia and I have both spilled a full glass of water on 2 separate rolls of Christmas wrapping paper.   I obviously did not learn from the first accident.  That being said, those bags are SOOOOO convenient.  Presto.  Wrapped pointy thing-a-ma-jig.

2. Real tree or Artificial? Artificial.  The faker the better.  I have a soft spot for those Charlie Brown-ish looking trees.  And of course anything shiny and tinselly.  And it makes me sad to see all of those “real” trees at the end of people’s driveways after Christmas.  It just seems cruel.

3. When do you put up the tree? Usually right after Thanksgiving.  This year we were a bit later.

4. When do you take the tree down? Pretty much right after Christmas.  By then I like the extreme home makeover feel of all of those decorations getting boxed up and put away.  My house is so clean.  For those 5 minutes.

5. Do you like eggnog? nope

6. Favorite gift received as a child? Tough question.  It’s hard to say, but I think it might have been my Cabbage Patch Doll.  Good times.

7. Do you have a nativity scene? Yes, we try to keep the true meaning of Christmas in our home – less commercialism and more Jesus.  That being said, Edison mostly likes the camel (see Dec.13th post)

8. Hardest person to buy for? Two people are tough for us.  Grandpa Jack…but we think we have fun things for you this year! (shhh…it’s a surprise) and Pop Pop who has everything he wants and buys for himself (2 weeks or 2 days!!!) before Christmas anything else he might want.

9. Easiest person to buy for? Everyone else.  We love buying & making presents in this home.

10. Mail or E-Mail Christmas Cards? We mail them

11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received? This wasn’t a Christmas gift, it was a secret pal gift, but it was a weird rock that was painted or drawn on by marker.  From James at Tuscarora –  all the people from my Tuscarora history know what I’m talking about.

12. Favorite Christmas Movie? Charlie Brown.  Especially the dancing scene.

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?January.  I’m always thinking about buying or making gifts.  It’s an obsession.  I start knitting & crafting right away thinking “this will be the year I make wonderful handmade gifts for everyone…”  This year I didn’t plan ahead very much and I am not enjoying the last minute thing.  Too much pressure.  Especially with all of the bouts of stomach bugs that have graced our home since Edison went to kindergarten.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present? Does the rock count?  Jodie ended up with that.

15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?  Um, cookies…

16. Clear lights or colored on the tree? I always preferred clear, but all of a sudden the gaudier the better.  I am on a colored light kick.  Probably because Edison likes them so much and I just share his joy

.
17. Favorite Christmas song? I love pretty much all of the hymns/carols & really like Angels We Have Heard On High & Silent Night.  I could live without a lot of the “grocery store” jingles — I’m so sick of Santa Baby and Feliz Navidad I could cause some damage if I got near their sound system.

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home? We do both, depending on the year.  We like our kids to be home for Christmas morning, but this year we’ll be in Rochester which is always nice too.  We want to always be in 3 places at once.

19. Can you name all of Santa’s reindeers? You know Dasher and dancer and donner and blitzen.  Comet and cupid and prancer and vixen?  and then there’s rudolph.

20. Angel on the tree top or a star?Neither. There isn’t anything at the top of our tree right now, but I like either one.

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning? We spread it out from about Thanksgiving (with my parents) on.  Lots of mini-parties/gift exchanges with friends and family. 22. Most annoying thing about this time of year? Grumpy people at the stores.  Spread the love people while you’re doing your joyous shopping!  23. Favorite ornament theme or Color? I am liking turquoise and green this year but I also like anything homemade.

24. Favorite for Christmas dinner? This changes every year.  My favorite would be hamloaf (so Pennsylvania dutch) but Garrison thinks it is like dog food so that won’t be our family’s tradition that’s for sure!

25. What do you want for Christmas this year? I want to have some time to relax and really enjoy our family.  I want to only buy things & make things that are on our heart to do and not buy to try to match someone else’s budget.  Oh yeah, and world peace.  🙂
