An Autumn Playdate

crafting 013

Little girls are so much fun – especially the kind of little girls that play “princess star wars”  chasing the bad guys with lightsabers made of sticks while wearing their best frilly tutus…

New Job

Today was my first “real” day at my new job as Music Director/Worship Leader/Organist.   I was pretty nervous yesterday and spent 3 hours (!) practicing (and playing with sounds on the organ).  I was there so long that the pastor actually came over to make sure that my car hadn’t broken down!  [good guess, but not this time!]millie

Anyway, it went really well and no major issues except that I forgot to turn the organ on (!) at the 2nd service and went to play the opening chord to a hymn and of course, there was no sound.  Good thing that it quickly came to life when I flipped the switch [and no one was the wiser (I think)].

Ho Ho Ho…A Decoratin’ we did go

Tis the season for lots of sparkle and lights…The kids and I have been spending a lot of time decorating the house for Christmas.  I got in a decorating rut in our last house – putting the same things in the same places every year.  But this year?  A new house?  Where should the tree go?  Where can this garland go?  Where should the pink tinsel tree go?  Ah, Decisions to be made.  Good thing I’ve got Edison ready to help.  We decorated the tree and Claudia promptly UN-decorated the whole bottom of the tree and used those ornaments to decorate everything else in the house.  🙂

Notice the empty-ish Bottom half of the tree….

Oh deer…..I sure do love me a flocked reindeer….Soft and fuzzy and so reminiscent of my childhood.

good use of a potrack, eh?

My Birthday at the Circus ;-)

My sweet friend Karen volunteered to babysit our children so that Garrison and I could get a night out on the town for my 33rd birthday.  She ended up only needing to watch Claudia because Edison went to his first SLEEPOVER birthday party at his friend Ripley’s house…camping theme, tents in the living room, lots of hyper 6 year old boys…God bless those parents…

Anyway, Garrison and I decided to just walk down the main street of Saratoga and see what struck our fancy for dinner.  As we walked past the Prudential Realty building, I looked over and saw our CARLISLE house on the big screen tv advertising in their window.  Weird but very fun to see.  🙂  Which leads me off of the birthday topic, to our big announcement – we got the call yesterday afternoon that the Carlisle house is CLOSING TODAY at 4:30 p.m.  — hopefully THIS bank won’t go out of business before then.   Fingers crossed, salt over the shoulder, don’t walk under a ladder, don’t look cross-eyed at a black cat with a hump, and all of that good stuff….

Back to my birthday (it’s all about me, right?) – we ended up going to the first restaurant we came to because it started to pour and so that one looked JUST FINE.  It was called the CIRCUS CAFE – and their menus state that their hamburgers were voted #1 in the city.  So, of course that is what we ordered.  They were good, but what I really LOVED were the sweet potato fries.  Yum-ME  (about me again -ha).  We were too stuffed to order the cotton candy for dessert, but it did look great.  In that lovely shade of sky happy blue.

After dinner we went to A.C.Moore (yippee a craft store!  With No children in tow!  THAT was a birthday treat to be sure! and Garrison didn’t complain about the smell of potpourri in there even ONCE!), then to Starbucks for coffee (Jill, I thought of you!)  and then to see the new James Bond flick.

…and it’s not even my birthday yet…

It has been a fun week of hanging out with friends and getting presents in the mail….Hooray for birthdays!  And mine still isn’t until Saturday…

On Tuesday night, my friends and I had a much needed Girls Night Out tromping around Saratoga Springs…I even got sort of dressed up 🙂  Enough so that Edison noticed and said he thought I looked “very nice”…I didn’t even need to pay him to say it!  wink wink

bday-002  bday-010

We went to the slightly pretentious “WINE BAR” in Saratoga where we shared a bottle o’ red and had TEENY TINY desserts.  It made me think of that famous school scene in Zoolander — what is this?  A blueberry crisp for ANTS???

Then we wandered next door to the Grey Gelding where a rep for Grey Goose Vodka was handing out free Pear Cosmopolitans.  Free?  OK, sounds delicious.  [side note – it was]

After hanging out there awhile with more laughing we headed across the street to a favorite coffee shop – Uncommon Grounds where we got decent coffee and found out they don’t serve bagels after 9 so we all got REALLY DRIED OUT muffins.

Not quite Rudolph…

It feels like Christmas is coming quickly upon us…today I took the kids to the local library [can I just say it is the BEST library EVER!  Complete with a COFFEE SHOP!!!!  sigh]

Anyway, we went to the library because there were real live REINDEER there.  And although they looked a little bit like the dog in the Grinch cartoon with these giant antlers, they seemed pretty docile.  I tried to feed one an apple from my hand but he just breathed really hard on me.  More like a silent snort.  He must have found my apple distasteful.  Well, Mr. Reindeer, let me just tell you that I found your SCENT distasteful.  So there.

Trick Or Treat

halloween-012  Garrison (aka Joe the Plumber) came home from work “early” to join in the festivities.  Our first night of trick-or-treating in the new neighborhood.  We have actually never taken the kids trick-or-treating before and so we were all excited to go.  The neighborhood we live in was filled with kids & adults out just walking and talking.  It was very picturesque…like something out of a movie.  Remember E.T.?

halloween-014  Claudia was a scarecrow but got rid of her rafia straw as soon as she could.

halloween-0131    Edison was America’s Next Top Model  OPTIMUS PRIME (the blue transformer.  Yeah, I didn’t know its name either.)

halloween-0161  I was a GARDEN GNOME…NOT A CHRISTMAS ELF.  They both have twinkly eyes and all of that, but come on…I’m wearing red and blue and garden-y stomping boots Not jingle shoes…sigh…garden gnome, people, garden gnome…halloween-020

halloween-021 Claudia started to get cold, so Daddy wrapped her up inside his coat, which then made his costume “Joe the Plumber from the movie ALIEN where a crazy scarecrow baby comes up out of his chest”…

halloween-026 the GARDEN GNOME (!) found a perfect red garden gnome type chair…

halloween-025  Dark picture of Edison & Josh (a friend who came trick or treating with us) running to the next place for candy.
